Hello, and welcome to my website! I’m performingartsadvice, and I have been a producer, primarily of theater but hoping to break into TV and film, for the better part of 13 years. Welcome to the party!

And now… some Questions That Aren’t So Frequently Asked But You’re Here So Why Not Ask Them. (My “not-FAQ,” for short.)

Why are you here?

‘Cause Tumblr’s bein’ a bitch as usual, and I’ve been looking to leave for a long-ass time. My stay here may not be permanent, but for now I’m giving it a go.

No, seriously, why are you here?

Oh, in the sense of “what’s my purpose on this site”? That’s easy. Before I ever became a producer, I wanted to be in show business my whole life, but once I started studying it, I discovered just how confusing a field it could be for a layperson. Your head is swimming with theories, there are no right answers (though, it seems, there’s plenty of wrong ones), and you want someone who will just tell it like it is. Now, I can’t claim to be an expert. As William Goldman once said about the film industry, “Nobody knows anything […] Every time out it’s a guess and, if you’re lucky, an educated one.” This is no less true of live theater. But as a professional producer and occasional performer of over a decade, I have learned both technical and performance theater skills that I think will prove valuable to my readers.

So what will your blog be about?

I kinda thought I just said that, but okay. This blog will involve practical advice, coupled of course with personal experience, for all performing arts disciplines (i.e., producing, directing, performing, writing), divulging some tricks of the trade along the way, and also some of my ideas for directing / presenting some of my favorite plays and musicals (well, the ideas I’ve decided are worth sharing with others, anyway).

Will anything from your Tumblr accounts appear here?

Oh yeah, this is basically a rehash of what I deem to be the material worth saving from both gdelgiproducer and gdelgidirector. If you’re one of the few people reading this who already followed those accounts, be prepared for some very familiar material, albeit maybe slightly reworded along the way, or rewritten with the benefit of age and distance.

Will [insert specific material] from your Tumblr accounts appear here?

The “fan edits,” so to speak? No, or at least not unless they’re in a very different form. The “fandom writings”? Yeah, some of those — or material from them, at least — may pop up. But this blog will primarily be devoted to anything that appeared in my “Production Techniques” column on gdelgiproducer and the posts on directing/acting and show proposals from gdelgidirector. As for goodies like the free abandonware Final Draft, to the extent that Altervista allows such to appear, I’ll do my best to bring it back, but I’m not making promises, capisce?
